Education of Children of Chinese Origin (ECCO) in Italy

The team of the ECCO-Italy project proposes an investigation of language socialization models amongst the latest generations of young people of Chinese descent. The focus will be on patterns that have emerged in Chinese complementary schools (huawen xuexiao) in Italy. The project will examine the long-term effects of the mother tongue learning on the process of learning Italian. Members of the four research units (Bergamo, Bologna, Florence, Siena) will conduct ethnographic explorations, involving children of Chinese origin in their Chinese schools and compulsory schools, along with teachers, principals, families and adults from Chinese communities.
